Last Thursday, I participated in my second baby shower with Operation Shower, a non-profit organization that throws the most amazing baby showers for military families. As I began my hour long drive from Orange County to San Diego, it began raining so heavily I could barely see the car in front of me. There were bolts of lighting over the ocean and I had never seen it rain so hard for such a long amount of time in Southern California. I have to admit, there was a bit of white knuckling going on. But, just as I arrived at my destination, the rain stopped and there were beautiful blue skies above; just in time for all the mommies-to-be to arrive safely. And of course, when I got to see the room set up, all of the amazingly talented ladies who donate their time to this cause did not disappoint!
Hostess with the Mostess, Jenn Sbranti had whipped up a gourmet “Baby Bistro” theme with a bright and fun color palette. I especially loved the “No crying over spilled milk” signs at the tables. The dessert table was a collaboration of more talented sweets ladies. Hey, There Cupcake contributed the gorgeous cake and I was so happy to finally meet Stevi, the artist behind this beautiful piece. I’ve been following her for a while and just love everything she does. Another favorite of mine were the individual creme brulees in baby food jars by Meringue Bake Shop! Kristin of Meringue Bake shop also did all the desserts for my daughter’s Tangled party. She is awesome! Marie of Sweets Indeed was also on hand and contributed the adorable sour belt lollies. That’s her baby bump below in the cute volunteers’ apron! If you haven’t noticed, I’m obsessed with parties myself, so these women are all like rock stars to me. I love taking detail shots of beautiful food, desserts, and decor just as much as capturing the emotions and reactions of the people around me.
Guests were treated to a healthy lunch, courtesy of Whole Foods, and then once all the mommies arrived, they were greeted and the showering began right away with some great items from Babies R’ Us. Moms were also shown a demonstration on some helpful party planning and decoration tips from Jeanne Benedict, host of DIY’s Weekend Entertaining, and Jenn Sbranti of Hostess with the Mostess. I am a huge fan of both!! After the demonstration, each honored guest received their shower in a box and then participated in some classic baby shower activities – the photobooth with me, bib decorating, and “guess the baby food.”
Thank you Amy for asking me back again to photograph this year! I’m so honored to be a part of such a wonderful organization. Congratulations to all of our military families!
